Our Mission

We welcome you to Serenity to share a family experience year after year. The waterfront holds a rich history with many returning guests from the 1940s thru the 1970s when this area was the home of the Somerville, MA, YMCA. Campers still return to the new and updated area to recollect the memories of their childhood and return to the area where their summer friendships commenced.

The tradition continues...Serenity is the idyllic location for families and friends to delight in the beauty of the lakes and mountains . The natural surroundings are outstanding for hiking, biking, and fishing. We welcome you to join us and discover how the contagious charm of Great East Lake will infuse you.

In 1972, the grounds were transformed by The Nugent family as they renovated each of the four cottages and transformed them into individual houses with kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, and living areas. The basketball/volleyball court was maintained and a boathouse was erected for social gatherings.  The boathouse is rich in activities including ping pong, pool, arts and crafts, movies, and card tables. The boathouse deck belies vistas of the lake best enjoyed at sunset.

Serenity is located on Great East Lake in the town of Wakefield, New Hampshire. Wakefield is comprised of the villages of Sanbornville, East Wakefield, North Wakefield and Union Village and surrounded by twelve lakes from 12 to 1700 acres in size. Two eighteen hole golf courses lie within 15 minutes. The Wakefield Historic District’s nationally registered 26 Federal period buildings which are unique in the New England area. Wakefield offers the rural flavor and friendliness of a small town, yet it is less than 45 minutes from deep sea fishing and lobster on the Maine and NH seacoasts, shopping at N. Conway, or diving and rides on the scenic Mt. Washington on Lake Winnepasaukee in Wolfeboro.

Great East Lake has 18 miles of shoreline and reaches depths of 120+ feet. A public launch is available for use and Serenity has moorings available for the use of guests.

Hiking and biking trail guides are available from local merchants and will be provided in the cabins.

Grocery stores, restaurants, golf courses, and a post office all reside within 15 minutes of the site.
